Saylor-Beall 4500 Series Replacement Pump (15 – 30 HP)
The Saylor-Beall 4500 is a heavyweight, four-cylinder, two-stage pump designed for the most demanding air requirements in the industry. By utilizing four cylinders, the 4500 distributes the workload across more surface area, resulting in significantly lower operating temperatures and higher efficiency than smaller units pushed to their limits. If your facility measures air demand in hundreds of cubic feet per minute, the 4500 is the industrial standard.
Available Lubrication Configurations
- Standard Splash Lubrication (Model 4500) The high-performance choice for large-scale intermittent industrial use.
- Mechanism: Robust dippers on the heavy-duty connecting rods churn the oil reservoir, creating a controlled “oil storm” within the crankcase. This ensures that even with four cylinders moving, every friction surface is saturated.
- Benefit: Exceptional reliability with a simplified mechanical design. It is preferred for large automotive service centers or manufacturing cells where the pump has time to cycle off between high-demand periods.
- Pressure Lubricated (Model 4500-PL / L-Series) The mandatory choice for continuous-duty, high-heat, or mission-critical production lines.
- Mechanism: A high-volume, crankshaft-driven oil pump forces filtered oil through a rifle-drilled crankshaft directly to the main bearings, rod bearings, and wrist pins.
- Benefit: It provides a level of protection that splash lubrication cannot match during 24/7 operation. This system includes an automotive-style spin-on oil filter and a front-mounted oil pressure gauge for real-time monitoring of the pump’s internal health.

Industrial Strength Features:
- Four-Cylinder Balance: The 4-cylinder design provides inherently better balance and smoother airflow pulses than 2-cylinder models, reducing stress on the tank and piping.
- Advanced Cooling: Features multiple intercoolers and a massive high-flow flywheel that acts as a fan, pulling air across the deep-finned cylinders.
- Serviceability: Despite its size, the 4500 is designed for field service, featuring individual cylinders and easily accessible valve plates.
